Maes-y-Fedwen

Stay

Accommodation in peaceful Snowdonia setting.

Maes y Fedwen is a unique split level house which was built in 1973 from plans drawn by Clough Williams Ellis, the architect who was responsible for the design and building of Portmeirion. The house is built on an elevated site approached by a short drive which leads to a large private tarmaced car park. Large picture windows offer panoramic views across the village of Betws y Coed and westward towards the Carneddau mountains.

Terraced gardens surround the house and a lower garden has a small orchard and is home for the bee hives which provide honey for breakfast. Although only 5-10 minutes walk away from the centre of Betws y Coed, Maes y Fedwen offers its guests a quiet haven in a friendly and homely environment.

There are three bedrooms, two double, one of which may be used as either a double or a twin/ triple room, and a single room. All three rooms are tastefully decorated and offer en suite accommodation with TV, radio, and hair dryer as well as the ingredients for making a variety of hot drinks. A small library of paperbacks is available for loan in the dining room.

The dining room is on the upper floor and has a large picture window with panoramic views across the village to the forested hills leading towards the mountains.

A traditional cooked breakfast, along with a choice of cereals and fruit juices, is served accompanied by fresh home baked bread, a choice of preserves and Maes y Fedwen honey. Special diets and early breakfasts are easily arranged.

Sue and Dave Walsh run Maes y Fedwen as a three star Bed and Breakfast alongside Dave’s work as an International Mountain Guide

They have lived and worked in Snowdonia for the last 40 years and have an intimate knowledge of the favourite tourist attractions as well as the hidden gems for those who want to escape from the more popular areas.

They are both more than happy to share their experience and discuss alternative venues for days exploring the mountains, castles and beaches of this beautiful part of Wales. For the keen mountain bike riders, the Marin trail is virtually on the doorstep, the new Penmachno trail and the Coed y Brenin trails are within easy reach.

Bike storage, cleaning and drying facilities are available.
